A dark and violent story

Despite its sometimes colorful and cheerful anime aesthetic, the tone of the game is decidedly sinister. The game presents Planet Earth practically reduced to rubble, and some of the mechanics that you can experience during combat will make your characters lose their sanity, giving the whole adventure a dark tinge. Even the character designs themselves are very disturbing, especially when it comes to some of the more dangerous bosses in the game.

Roguelike deckbuilder-style combat

In Chaos Zero Nightmare, the combat will feel very familiar to anyone who has ever played a roguelike deckbuilder. The main difference between this and Slay the Spire is that, instead of controlling a single character, you lead a group of three. You can combine their abilities, adding an additional strategic element to the game, which allows you to create synergies between their attacks. The core of the game, however, remains virtually identical: you have a limited number of energy points per turn-based round, which you can use to play your cards and finish off your enemies before your characters are defeated.

Recruit new heroes for the group

As is typical of almost any modern free-to-play RPG, Chaos Zero Nightmare features a gacha system to recruit new heroes for your party. You can collect dozens of different characters, each with their own design and special abilities. Some legendary characters also have unique interactions and very powerful combat cards. At some points in the game, you can chat with the different characters in your group and strengthen ties with them.
